ESA was founded in 1988 in Pittsburgh, PA by a former engineer who had himself been a consultant. The company quickly grew and captured major clients in western PA because it was uniquely designed to address the consulting profession from both sides of the desk. That philosophy remains today as a standard for attracting the best employees and keeping the best clients.
In 1993 the Cleveland branch was established. The similarities between the cities and the growing need for addressing the technological requirements created by software advances made Cleveland the logical choice for geographical expansion. Within three years the branch employed over 30 consultants and five staff members. ESA's client list boasts some of the largest employers in the region including Rockwell Automation, The Foxboro Company, Voest Alpine, Rosemount Analytical, TRW, ABB, Eveready Battery, Republic Technology International and NASA.
In November of 1999, the Cleveland branch separated from the parent company and ownership was transferred to Susan Davis. The entire staff at ESA remained the same, as did the workforce and client base. The art of doing business the "ESA way" continued, but with some improvements.
Now ESA Automation Services offers customers an additional advantage because of its Woman-Owned Small Business status. Capitalizing on that, in 2003 ESA acquired a GSA contractor number, allowing the company to directly pursue government contracts. Additionally, the company is certified to do business with the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, and the Northeast Ohio Water and Sewer District.
As these new opportunities present themselves, ESA is planning expansion into new locations, taking the expertise acquired in Northeast Ohio to government entities in broader geographical regions.
